Ensure the wood surface is free of obstructions to penetration, including mill glaze, wax, dirt, and mildew. Appropriate cleaners, like Outlast KleenStart, can eliminate these. Existing coatings may require chemical removal or should be sanded or blasted off and then cleaned. For the Outlast Q8 Log Oil to be effective, it must penetrate. If sanding is required to remove a previous coating, the wood may need to be washed with Outlast Kleenstart to re-open the pores.
