Turtle Belt Buckle

I first made this buckle more than five years ago. I think it was maybe 2015 that I cast my first turtle shell? for a pendant necklace. (Shout out if you've been around that long and remember!) I'll never forget the day I opened the box and saw the subtle grooves of the shell in solid brass - I was in love. The fact that I could take a cool thing I saw in nature and turn it into a wearable piece of art was mind-boggling to me. (This is also likely a good time to mention that the original turtle shell and only one I've ever used to cast was ethically sourced - aka the turtle died and left the empty shell. I did not harm any turtles in the making of this or any other cast shell pieces!!) Anywho, back to the belt buckle - I loved the shell as a pendant, though it did fall on the heavier side. But what I really kept envisioning was a belt buckle, strapped around a simple dress or casual jeans and tee to really up the ante. The reality was obviously obsession, and I can't believe it's taken me this darn long to share this piece with the world!
