Aspherical Lens Elements  The aspherical lens design effectively minimizes spherical aberration, resulting in a smaller and lighter lens. The misalignment of light rays on conventional spherical lenses, known as "spherical aberration," can degrade image quality in larger-aperture lenses. To correct this, aspherical elements are strategically placed near the diaphragm to realign the light rays and maintain sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture. They can also be used at other points in the optical path to reduce distortion. Additionally, well-designed aspherical elements can decrease the total number of elements needed in the lens, ultimately decreasing its size and weight.
