A fine Roman Glass Portrait Head Bead, Roman Imperial Period, ca. 100 - 200 CE

A rare and finely crafted Roman glass bead composed of opaque white glass fused upon a red background, featuring four delicately rendered female portrait heads. The portraits display remarkable detail for such a small format, reflecting the high technical skill of Roman glassmakers, particularly those active in the Eastern provinces where portraiture in glass beads was most highly developed. The bead has been mounted as a modern pendant and is accompanied by a 14K yellow gold chain, allowing it to be worn as a contemporary piece while preserving its ancient artistry.
