Vintage Suicide "Red Star Records" T-Shirt

<p>Suicide released their debut, self-titled album in 1977 on Red Star Records, a label ran by New York Dolls' manager Marty Thau. Suicide was formed by Alan Vega and Martin Rev a few years earlier in 1970, arriving at electronic music after leaving jazz behind. <em></em>The duo created a minimalistic style utilizing synthesizers and drum machines, a much more utilitarian approach than some of the other early electronic bands overseas. But while their music was wholly their own, it wound up being some of the most influential American music of the late half of the 20th century, as it influenced musicians of all styles, from punk (a term they helped circulate) to electronic to even more mainstream pop artists. The band continued on and off until Vega's death in 2016. In that time they produced five albums as well as two EPs and various live records.
