The story: As early as 1778, Richard Marin de Laprade, court physician to Louis XVI, recommended the fine-sparkling Badoit for its appetizing and curative properties and ennobled it with the title Champagne of Waters. In 1838, Auguste Saturnin Badoit bought the spring in St-Galmier to sell the digestive mineral water through pharmacies. By 1858, over 1.5 million liters of Badoit (7000 bottles per day) were sold. Thanks to its good reputation, Badoit gradually found its way into top international gastronomy. In 1971, Badoit became part of Evian. Today, Badoit is a product and a brand of the Danone Group. Only around 260 million liters are bottled each year. So this is already a rare water in principle. In 2019, Danone announced that Badoit would no longer be available in Germany and the UK. As Badoit is a natural mineral water, the company is aware of the need to preserve the source and never extract more than nature can provide. In the Saint Galmier region of France, there have been periods of drought in recent years which have affected the groundwater replenishment rate. Danone felt that the responsible approach was to reduce the amount of Badoit bottled and sold to protect the source for future generations. This is why our exclusive stock is strictly limited.
