This is because it was originally designed to fit the OEM intercooler. Aftermarket intercoolers typically hang lower as a result of them being at a higher flow & space capacity. We give you the option to purchase a skid plate with an opening just behind the 2 front mounting points for an intercooler. The size of the aftermarket intercooler opening is 33.5" Wide (left-to-right) & 5" Deep (front-to-back) The opening was designed around a Mishimoto intercooler for the 3.3T model.
