Its name "Chinook" originates from the Chinook people, Native Americans from Oregon and Washington.Development of the Chinook began in 1957 with a new twin-rotor design called the V-107. Around the same time, the U.S. Army sought to replace its piston-engine CH-37 "Mojave" helicopters with modern turbine-powered models. In June 1958, the Army ordered a small batch of V-107s, designated YHC-1A. Testing revealed that while it was too heavy for assault missions, it was also too light for transport. The improved YHC-1A was later adopted by the U.S. Marine Corps as the CH-46 Sea Knight, while the Army pursued a larger variant, the Vertol Model 114. This pre-production aircraft, initially called YCH-1B, first flew on September 21, 1961. In 1962, under the Tri-Service aircraft designation system, it was redesignated CH-47A.Entering service in 1962, the Chinook could reach a top speed of 170 knots (200 mph; 310 km/h), making it significantly faster than other utility and attack helicopters of the 1960s. It remains one of the fastest helicopters in U.S. inventory. Over the years, upgraded and more powerful versions have been introduced, with the CH-47D (first deployed in 1982) being a key variant. Improvements included enhanced engines, composite rotor blades, a redesigned cockpit for reduced workload, upgraded electrical/avionics systems, and advanced flight controls.Military versions have been exported globally, with the U.S. Army and British Royal Air Force (operating the Boeing Chinook UK variant) as primary users. The civilian version, the Vertol 234, serves in passenger/cargo transport, firefighting, and support roles for logging, construction, and oil industries.Specifications:.Material: ABS.Product Weight:1200g.Package Weight: 1400g.Product Dimensions: 29.5x29.5x23.7cm.Package Dimensions: 30.8x20.8x10cm.Packing: Graphic Carton.Ages:16+
