1954 Double S Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone, Fresh Overhaul, Video Demo

1954 Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone, s/n 56360. This is a first-year Mark VI tenor with the rare "double S" logo on the neck. If you look closely, it's actually an S and C, for Selmer et Cie. Selmer used this logo exclusively on the first Mark VI necks before switching to the standard S logo used for the remainder of Mark VI production. Based on the short production window, I estimate that Selmer made fewer than 1,000 Mark VI tenors with the double S neck. The sax just received a full overhaul from PM Woodwind. They used Ken Beason's oversized domed brass resonators, commonly known as "Beasonators". These are reusable resonators, so they can be retained through future overhauls as well. The overhaul feels great, with tight, even keywork and an excellent setup throughout the range. This is a great playing horn. It's very responsive, the low notes come out easily, and it has a rich, gorgeous sound that I associate with these early Mark VI tenors. The neck is original to the horn and has the matching serial number. Like many horns of this era, the lacquer is not original.
