Commonly called ‘striped squill’ this bulb presents racemes of fragrant frosty white blooms for up to 6 weeks in spring. Each of its six rounded star-shaped petals sports a central blue vein pointing towards a small yellow center. Happy in full sun to part shade and fertile, well-drained, soil. Moist in spring with dry summers will ensure spring bloom. Naturalizes easily and bulblets can be divided and replanted. Plant en masse with a mix of crocus, narcissus and tulips for a well rounded bulb collection that can be mowed in late spring, or use it as a lively spring border. Lovely in a small nosegay on the window sill. NOTE: These are SUMMER DORMANT plants; they dry up and go "to sleep" after they bloom in spring.
