It represents strength and safe passage over water. The hook shape finds its origins in Māori legend that the North Island of New Zealand was once a huge fish that was caught by the great mariner, Maui, using only a woven line and a hook made from the jawbone of his grandmother. Each Bali Necklace is hand carved on the tropical island of Bali and shipped from the USA. Because we repurpose 100% natural materials, there may be some slight imperfections in each piece.
